CeeDee Lamb Embraces Cowboys’ “New Math” With George Pickens: “We Both Ones”

The Dallas Cowboys are changing the way they do the math at wide receiver — and it doesn’t add up the traditional way.

After a 2024 season in which CeeDee Lamb continued to prove he’s among the NFL’s elite, the Cowboys made a bold move by trading for former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens. The move raised eyebrows, not because Dallas needed a receiver, but because they landed another player who views himself as a No. 1.

That’s just fine with Lamb.

Speaking for the first time since the trade, the four-time Pro Bowl receiver made it clear: there’s no pecking order — just playmakers.

“We both ones,” Lamb said over the weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he and Pickens participated in Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s celebrity softball game. Pickens echoed the sentiment with a simple, confident “Yeah.”

Lamb’s performance over the past two seasons has left little doubt about his status. In 2023, he set a Cowboys franchise record with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. His dominance has also exposed the lack of a true No. 2 receiver, with Lamb outgaining his closest teammate by more than 1,700 yards over the last two seasons — the largest gap in the NFL.

The Cowboys’ front office addressed that disparity with aggression. Vice president Stephen Jones called Pickens a “No. 1 receiver” when discussing the trade last week, a statement that initially seemed more optimistic than realistic. But now, with Lamb’s blessing, it appears the Cowboys are doubling down on a two-headed monster at receiver.

Pickens, while not yet in Lamb’s statistical stratosphere, brings a different kind of threat. In 2023, he led the league in yards per reception, averaging more than 18 yards per catch. His ability to stretch defenses vertically complements Lamb’s precise route-running and ability to dominate from the slot or outside.

“It ain’t no A/B, none of that,” Lamb said. “You look over there, you see 1. You look over here, you see another 1. So do what you got to do with that.”

With quarterback Dak Prescott under center, Dallas now boasts one of the most dynamic receiving duos in the league. Whether defenses can adjust to this “new math” will be one of the defining storylines of the Cowboys’ 2025 season — and Lamb is ready to share the spotlight to win big.
