Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis is reportedly preparing to part ways with the team, as interest from other NHL clubs wanes following a series of underwhelming seasons.

Despite being named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award in 2025, St. Louis’s tenure with the Canadiens has been marked by challenges. The team has missed the playoffs in each of his three full seasons, finishing last in the Atlantic Division with a 30-36-16 record in the 2024–25 season.

St. Louis, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018, took over as interim head coach in February 2022 after the dismissal of Dominique Ducharme. He was later named head coach and signed a three-year extension in April 2024. While he has been praised for his player development skills, particularly with young talents like Juraj Slafkovsky, the team’s overall performance has not met expectations.
