Breaking news :Carnival Cruise CEO Urges Passengers to Wear Life Jackets Amid Safety Concerns

May 11, 2025 – Miami, FL – In a rare and urgent announcement, the CEO of Carnival Cruise Line has called on all passengers aboard their ships to begin wearing life jackets while on board, citing heightened safety concerns due to unexpected maritime conditions.

Christine Duffy, President and CEO of Carnival Cruise Line, addressed guests in a recorded video broadcast across the cruise fleet and through the Carnival app, emphasizing the importance of safety and preparedness. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are advising all passengers to wear their life jackets while outside their cabins. This is not due to an immediate emergency, but as a proactive measure based on current maritime forecasts,” said Duffy.

The announcement came after several ships in the fleet experienced unusually rough seas and unpredictable weather patterns in the Atlantic and Caribbean regions. Although no ships have reported critical damage or injuries, the cruise line is reportedly acting on the advice of its marine safety advisors.

Passengers responded with a mix of confusion and concern, with many taking to social media to share videos and photos of themselves donning bright orange life vests while enjoying onboard activities. Some praised Carnival for prioritizing safety, while others questioned whether the company was withholding information about a more serious issue.

Carnival Cruise Line clarified in a written statement that no evacuation procedures were underway and that all ships remain fully operational. “We are committed to the highest standards of safety for our guests and crew. Wearing life jackets during certain weather conditions is a precautionary measure, not an indication of danger,” the statement read.

The U.S. Coast Guard has also confirmed that it is in communication with Carnival’s fleet and has not issued any emergency advisories related to the cruise line.

Marine experts believe that this move may become a more common practice in the cruise industry as weather patterns become more volatile due to climate change. “What was once rare may become routine in the years ahead,” said Dr. Lena Marshall, a maritime safety consultant.

Carnival Cruise Line has assured guests that it will provide regular updates as conditions evolve and continues to work closely with authorities and meteorologists to ensure passenger safety.

Passengers are encouraged to follow crew instructions and remain calm, with full entertainment and dining services continuing aboard all vessels.
