JUST IN: The Warriors might reunite Stephen Curry with a four-time NBA champion guard this summer

The Warriors might reunite Stephen Curry with a four-time NBA champion guard this summer.

Despite Buddy Hield’s occasional strong performances from beyond the arc this season, he hasn’t been a consistently reliable long-range threat for the Golden State Warriors recently.

Hield shot 50% from three-point range in October and 41.4% in November, but his consistency has faltered since December, leading many to question his compatibility with the Warriors’ three-point heavy playstyle.

If Hield struggles to find his rhythm from deep, Golden State might explore the possibility of reuniting Stephen Curry with a four-time NBA champion guard known for his sharp shooting.

“Though a return to the Warriors seems unlikely at this point, the idea of (Klay) Thompson being traded is not out of the question, especially considering the current uncertainty surrounding the (Dallas) Mavericks,” wrote Peter O’Keefe of Blue Man Hoop on Wednesday.

“Does Thompson want to stay with a team that promised him success but has largely failed, part of which is their own fault?”

“For the Warriors, Thompson could still play a meaningful role on a team that’s now pushing for a playoff spot. It’s not hard to envision the franchise legend being an upgrade over Hield, having shot 40.2% from three on 7.8 attempts per game with Dallas this season.”

Thompson, who enjoyed a remarkable 13-year tenure with the Warriors, is a skilled jump shooter, renowned for his mastery of pin-downs and stagger screens. He won four championships alongside Curry in Golden State.

However, after a disappointing performance in the Warriors’ Play-In game against the Sacramento Kings last season, Golden State traded Thompson for Hield in the offseason.

Even though the Mavericks’ 2024-25 season has been disappointing, Thompson continues to be a reliable three-point shooter. He averages 14.1 points per game, with a shooting line of 41.6% from the field and 40.2% from three.

With many expecting Thompson to be on the move once free agency opens, the Warriors could consider bringing the franchise legend back, surrounding Curry with a familiar face.

While Hield has contributed this season, Thompson remains the more reliable wing option for the championship-contending Warriors.
