“MASSIVE BOOST” Texas Football Hires Former Big 12 Head Coach To Its Staff

Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Adds Neal Brown to Coaching Staff

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is continuing to build a coaching staff reminiscent of his mentor, legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Much like Saban, who often brought in former head coaches and big names from other programs, Sarkisian has been following a similar blueprint to surround himself with experienced and successful assistants. On Tuesday, Rivals’ Anwar Richardson reported that former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown is expected to join Sarkisianโ€™s staff, marking another key addition to Texasโ€™ growing coaching roster.

Itโ€™s unclear exactly what role Brown will play, but his addition continues Sarkisian’s pattern of hiring experienced coaches with notable backgrounds. In recent years, Sarkisian hired former Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst and former TCU head coach Gary Patterson in special assistant roles. These moves, much like the potential addition of Brown, further elevate Texasโ€™ coaching staff with seasoned veterans who bring valuable insight and knowledge from their time at the helm of other programs.

Brown, who spent six seasons at West Virginia, brings a wealth of experience to the Longhorns. His coaching career includes previous stops at Troy, Kentucky, Texas Tech, Delaware, Sacred Heart, and UMass, making him a well-rounded addition to the Texas program. During his tenure at West Virginia, Brown faced significant challenges in trying to turn around a struggling Mountaineers team, yet his vast experience across multiple programs should prove valuable as he works to help develop Texas players, especially in areas where leadership and guidance are needed most.

This hire comes shortly after a change in the Texas coaching staff, with running backs coach Tashard Choice leaving to accept a position with the Detroit Lions. Sarkisian quickly filled the vacancy by hiring Chad Scott, another former West Virginia staff member, to take over the running backs coaching position.

Sarkisianโ€™s decision to continually seek out experienced coaches, including former head coaches like Brown and others, shows his commitment to fostering a coaching staff that can handle a variety of challenges and bring diverse perspectives to the program. With Sarkisianโ€™s leadership and the depth of experience surrounding him, Texas is positioning itself for continued success on the field.

As the season approaches, fans will eagerly await to see how these coaching additions influence the teamโ€™s performance, especially with Sarkisian’s track record of developing high-level talent and preparing his team for tough competition in the Big 12.
