Matthew Slater, a cornerstone of the New England Patriots’ special teams for 16 seasons, has announced his departure from the team, marking the end of an era.

Known for his exceptional leadership and dedication, Slater’s exit has left fans and teammates reflecting on his remarkable career.

Drafted by the Patriots in 2008, Slater quickly became a standout on special teams, earning 10 Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro honors. His leadership was instrumental in the Patriots securing three Super Bowl titles during his tenure. In 2020, he extended his contract with the team, solidifying his role as a veteran presence.

In 2024, Slater transitioned to a coaching role as an assistant under former head coach Jerod Mayo. However, following Mayo’s dismissal and the hiring of Mike Vrabel, Slater was not retained on the new coaching staff.
