Laine’s journey with the Canadiens began in August 2024, following a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Jordan Harris and a 2026 second-round draft pick. His debut was delayed due to a knee injury sustained during a preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on September 28, 2024. After a two-month recovery, Laine made his first appearance for Montreal on December 3, 2024, against the New York Islanders, marking his return with a goal.
