Matthew Judon on Eric Bieniemy Interview: ‘Not Sure He’s the Right Fit for the Patriots
Foxborough, MA – As the New England Patriots continue their search for a new offensive coordinator, linebacker Matthew Judon has expressed skepticism about one of the leading candidates, Eric Bieniemy.
Following reports that the Patriots interviewed Bieniemy for the position, Judon was asked about the potential hire during a media availability session. While acknowledging Bieniemy’s success with the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders, Judon didn’t sound entirely convinced that he would be the best choice for New England.
“I respect what Coach Bieniemy has done in this league—he’s been part of some great offenses,” Judon said. “But I’m not sure he’s the right fit for the Patriots. This organization has a certain way of doing things, and we need someone who truly understands that.”
Judon’s comments add to the growing debate about the direction of the Patriots’ offense. After a disappointing 2024 season that saw inconsistency at quarterback and struggles in play-calling, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how head coach Bill Belichick—or his successor, should the team make a change—revamps the offensive unit.
Bieniemy, who has been a popular head coaching candidate in recent years, is known for his high-powered, pass-heavy offensive schemes. However, with the Patriots traditionally leaning on a balanced approach and a strong ground game, there are concerns about whether his philosophy would mesh with New England’s current roster.
Despite Judon’s reservations, the Patriots remain in the early stages of their coaching search, with other candidates also under consideration. Whether Bieniemy ultimately lands the job or the team goes in a different direction, it’s clear that New England is looking for a major shift on offense.
For now, the Patriots’ defensive leader has made his stance clear: change is needed, but it has to be the right kind of change.
