Miami Dolphins Hire Robert Prince as New Wide Receivers Coach

The Miami Dolphins have hired veteran coach Robert Prince as their new wide receivers coach, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Prince, 59, brings over two decades of NFL coaching experience to Miami, including extensive stints with several franchises. His hiring comes as the Dolphins look to revamp their wide receiver corps after parting ways with Wes Welker earlier this month.

Prince most recently served as the wide receivers coach for the Dallas Cowboys, where he spent three seasons overseeing a group led by Pro Bowl star CeeDee Lamb. During Prince’s tenure in Dallas, Lamb emerged as one of the NFL’s premier receivers, leading the team in receiving yards for four consecutive seasons. Additionally, Prince helped guide the development of young talents like Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin, both of whom showed significant growth in 2024.

Before his time in Dallas, Prince held similar roles with the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, and Seattle Seahawks. His extensive experience working with wide receivers is expected to be a major asset to the Dolphins, especially as they look to improve depth and consistency behind stars Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

The Dolphins enjoyed stellar production from Hill and Waddle in recent years, with Hill eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards in each of his Miami campaigns and Waddle emerging as a reliable secondary option. However, the team has struggled to find a consistent third wide receiver. This lack of depth led to the dismissal of Welker, despite his contributions to the team’s passing attack.

Prince will face the challenge of developing Miami’s young talent, including 2024 draft picks Malik Washington and Tahj Washington, both of whom have shown promise but remain unproven at the NFL level. The Dolphins are counting on Prince’s ability to mold these players into reliable contributors who can take pressure off Hill and Waddle.

Head coach Mike McDaniel’s offensive system emphasizes speed and versatility, and Prince’s track record suggests he is well-suited to maximize the potential of Miami’s wide receiver group.
