BREAKING NEWS: Chargers Will Probably Lose Free Agent Running Back– Cowboys Among Logical Fits

The Los Angeles Chargers are on the verge of losing free agent running back J.K. Dobbins, whose value on the open market is expected to generate significant interest from several teams.

With the Chargers seemingly strapped for cap space and already invested in their offensive core, retaining Dobbins may not be feasible. This could lead to an opportunity for other NFL contenders to bolster their backfield with the talented 25-year-old.

Dobbins, who spent the 2024 season with the Chargers after being acquired in a midseason trade, demonstrated his elite skill set as a dynamic dual-threat running back. Despite dealing with injuries earlier in his career, the former second-round pick out of Ohio State showcased flashes of brilliance in both the ground and passing game. Dobbins finished the season with over 1,000 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns, solidifying himself as a key offensive contributor.

However, the Chargers face a challenging offseason as they work to balance their salary cap while addressing other pressing roster needs. With players like Justin Herbert, Keenan Allen, and Rashawn Slater commanding significant portions of the cap, it’s likely the team will have to prioritize other areas, leaving Dobbins to explore his options in free agency.

Among the most logical landing spots for Dobbins are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams have glaring needs at the running back position and could benefit from adding a player of his caliber.

The Chiefs, who are always looking to maximize Patrick Mahomes’ potential, have struggled to find consistency in their ground game. Adding Dobbins to the mix would give Kansas City a versatile weapon capable of complementing their high-powered passing attack. His ability to catch passes out of the backfield would fit seamlessly into Andy Reid’s offensive scheme, making him a prime candidate for the Chiefs to pursue.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys may also emerge as strong suitors. Despite Tony Pollard’s success, Dallas lacks depth at running back and could use another playmaker to balance their offense. Dobbins’ downhill running style and explosive burst would give Dak Prescott another reliable option and ease the pressure on the Cowboys’ passing game.

Other potential suitors for Dobbins include the Buffalo Bills, who are in dire need of a running back to stabilize their offense, and the Atlanta Falcons, whose run-heavy scheme could perfectly suit his skill set.

Wherever Dobbins lands, he’s poised to make an immediate impact. While the Chargers may struggle to keep him, his next destination will likely be with a team ready to utilize his full potential.
