JUST IN: Cowboys Head Coaching Candidate is ‘Excited’ to Interview With the Team

Dallas Cowboys Begin Extensive Head Coaching Search

The Dallas Cowboys appear determined to take their head coaching search seriously this offseason. With the team parting ways with Mike McCarthy after a disappointing 7-10 season, Dallas is already scheduling interviews with an intriguing mix of candidates. The organization has announced meetings with former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier, and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who is also a former Cowboys player and coach.

Kellen Moore, who served as the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator before joining the Eagles in the same role, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to return to Dallas in a more significant capacity. According to Brandon Loree of Blogging The Boys, former NFL quarterback and current analyst Chase Daniel reached out to Moore via text, with Moore reportedly saying he is “excited” about the chance to interview. Moore’s virtual interview with Dallas is scheduled for Friday, just two days before he helps guide the Eagles in their NFC Divisional Round matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Moore’s familiarity with the Cowboys organization could make him an appealing option for owner Jerry Jones. As both a former player and assistant coach in Dallas, Moore understands the team’s culture and has worked closely with quarterback Dak Prescott. Many analysts believe Moore’s offensive creativity and ability to connect with players could make him an excellent fit to lead the Cowboys back to playoff contention.

But Moore isn’t the only former Cowboy rumored to be under consideration. Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders and future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten have also been mentioned as potential candidates. Sanders, currently the head coach at the University of Colorado, has made waves in college football for his leadership and ability to recruit top talent. Witten, meanwhile, has spent time coaching at the high school level and remains a beloved figure in Cowboys lore.

The Cowboys’ decision to cast a wide net suggests a more deliberate approach to the coaching search than in previous years. However, as with most developments involving “America’s Team,” the process is likely to generate plenty of media attention and drama before a decision is made.

With strong candidates like Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier in the mix, and the potential for a familiar face like Moore, Sanders, or Witten to take the helm, Dallas has plenty of options to weigh. Whomever Jerry Jones ultimately selects will inherit the pressure of leading one of the NFL’s most scrutinized franchises.
