BREAKING NEWS: Ivan Leko Breaks Silence on Status of Rangers Linked  Standard Liege Target, Isaac Price, With an Unexpected Announcement

Standard Liege manager Ivan Leko has addressed recent transfer speculation linking Rangers with a move for Isaac Price, insisting that his primary focus remains on his team’s upcoming clash against Mechelen.

Price, a 21-year-old midfielder with 18 international caps for Northern Ireland, has been the subject of interest from several British clubs, including Rangers and teams in the English Championship.

Despite the rumors, Leko appeared unfazed, emphasizing his commitment to Standard Liege’s current objectives. Speaking to the media, the Croatian manager said, “I’m not afraid of losing him in January because I’m not busy with that now. I’m only focused on the Mechelen match on Thursday.” This response reflects his determination to shield the team from distractions as they navigate the Belgian Pro League season.

Price has recently come under scrutiny following Standard Liege’s disappointing home defeat to Gent. His performance drew criticism from Belgian TV pundits, with former Belgian international goalkeeper Silvio Proto notably harsh in his assessment. Proto stated, “When he plays like that, Isaac Price has no right to play in this team or even this league.” Such remarks have added to the pressure on the young midfielder, who is still finding his footing in Belgian football after joining from Everton.

However, Leko was quick to defend his player, highlighting Price’s contribution to the team’s overall structure while acknowledging areas for improvement. “Isaac brings stability to the collective structure. Of course, a No.8 must also, ideally, have maybe three goals and three assists this season, and he has none. He lacks that, and he knows it,” Leko admitted. This balanced assessment underscores the manager’s faith in Price’s potential while recognizing the developmental steps needed for him to elevate his game.

Rangers’ reported interest in Price comes as the Glasgow club looks to strengthen its midfield options in the upcoming transfer window. Price’s youth, international experience, and grounding in the English football system make him an attractive prospect. However, Standard Liege’s stance on the matter suggests they are not eager to part with the player midway through the season.

For Price, the speculation represents both an opportunity and a challenge. While the links to prominent clubs signal his potential, he will need to respond to criticism with strong performances on the pitch to prove his worth. With Leko’s backing and a chance to refine his game, Price remains a player of significant interest as the January transfer window approaches.
