Lions Return to Practice Ahead of Pivotal Bills Matchup

The Detroit Lions returned to practice on Wednesday following a much-needed break. Having played 10 consecutive weeks since their Week 5 bye, the players and coaching staff welcomed a brief respite to recharge ahead of a critical matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Detroit Lions DT Levi Onwuzurike misses Thursday matchup vs. Packers

Key members of the defensive line were seen participating during the media-accessible portion of practice, sparking optimism about their availability for Sunday.

Alim McNeill Progresses Through Protocol

Defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who entered concussion protocol after leaving last Thursday’s victory over the Green Bay Packers, was a full participant. McNeill, a fourth-year standout from N.C. State, initially returned to that game before being ruled out at halftime. His presence at practice signals that he is nearing full clearance and could be a significant boost to Detroit’s defensive front.

Updates on Onwuzurike, Paschal, and Decker

Other key contributors joined McNeill in limited action. Defensive linemen Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring) and Josh Paschal (knee) participated in individual drills, while left tackle Taylor Decker (knee) took part in practice as well. Their involvement is an encouraging sign for a team looking to maintain its momentum in the NFC playoff race.

DJ Reader Works with Trainers

One notable absence from full team drills was DJ Reader. The veteran defensive tackle, dealing with a shoulder injury, worked on the side with trainers instead. Head coach Dan Campbell addressed Reader’s status, suggesting an update will come Thursday: “Reader, if anything comes down, it’ll be tomorrow,” Campbell explained.

Campbell also provided an update on Onwuzurike, who was expected to be limited Wednesday but could ramp up his activity by Thursday. “Levi’s gonna be down, but he’s gonna practice tomorrow,” Campbell added, indicating that his recovery remains on track.

Eyeing the Bills

Detroit’s coaching staff has been deliberate in managing player workloads this week, knowing the importance of entering Sunday’s contest as healthy as possible. The Bills present a significant challenge, and a strong showing from Detroit’s defensive line will be pivotal in containing quarterback Josh Allen and his dynamic offense.

As the Lions continue to fine-tune their preparations, the team remains optimistic that a healthier roster will bolster their chances in one of their most anticipated games of the season.
