Scottish News: Rangers Set to Sign Leeds United striker

Rangers Eye January Reinforcements Amid Managerial Speculation

Rangers are reportedly considering a loan move for Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt in the upcoming January transfer window. According to The Yorkshire Post, the young striker could provide a much-needed boost to the Ibrox attack as Rangers look to strengthen their squad mid-season. Gelhardt, who has struggled for consistent first-team opportunities at Leeds, might find the move to Glasgow an ideal opportunity for regular football.

Managerial Uncertainty Lingers

While Rangers are looking to bolster their squad, speculation continues to swirl around the future of head coach Philippe Clement. Former Rangers defender Craig Moore revealed on Go Radio that Kevin Muscat, a strong contender for the managerial role last year, was disappointed to miss out on the job. Moore believes Muscat is unlikely to consider the role again, should Clement depart.

“If Rangers sack Clement, there’s really only one option left,” Moore stated, pointing to Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes as the top candidate. McInnes, who has extensive Scottish Premiership experience, could offer a steady hand at Ibrox.

Injury Concerns Add to Rangers’ Woes

Rangers’ injury list continues to grow, with talented young striker Zak Lovelace the latest concern. Lovelace limped off during a Glasgow Cup match against Clyde, raising fears of a potentially lengthy absence. The Scottish Sun reports that Lovelace’s injury is being assessed, but his loss would be a blow to a squad already coping with multiple fitness issues.

Dundee United Tensions

Meanwhile, Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin has dismissed claims that his side deliberately delayed their kick-off preparations against Rangers to make a point. Former Rangers boss Ian McCall suggested United were attempting to disrupt the flow of the game, but Goodwin rejected those accusations, insisting there was nothing “sinister” about the incident.

Goodwin also clarified remarks made before the 1-1 draw at Ibrox, which had irked Philippe Clement. “I really wasn’t trying to be clever, just stating the obvious,” Goodwin said, adding that the comments were not meant to provoke.

Scottish Premiership Round-Up

Elsewhere in the Premiership, Hearts midfielder Blair Spittal has downplayed any impact of Lawrence Shankland’s contract situation on the squad, insisting the striker remains fully focused. At Aberdeen, manager Jimmy Thelin suggested that the emotional high from Ester Sokler’s stunning goal contributed to their inability to hold onto a lead against Hibernian.

With the January window fast approaching, Rangers face crucial decisions both on and off the pitch as they aim to regain their competitive edge.
