Rugby Dream Reignited:FIJI known For Its Passionate Rugby Community, George Bose Confirmed Into Fiji Airways Fijian 7s.
For George Bose, rugby has always been more than just a sport; it represented a potential means of supporting his family financially.
Hailing from Draiba in Navosa, Bose played for three prominent 7’s rugby teams in Fiji, all of which have helped him provide for his loved ones. His journey began with Yamacia Rugby Club, progressed through Tabadamu, and now includes playing for the Lavidi Brothers, three of Fiji’s most competitive and influential local 7’s teams.
Last year, Bose earned a spot in the Fijian 7s extended squad, a dream for many young Fijian players, though he did not make the final team. Recently, he was given a second chance by Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Head Coach Osea Kolinisau, who spotted him at the Kadavu 7s tournament last month.
“This second call-up is incredibly important to me. I’ve seen how difficult it is to reach this level—it requires immense dedication and hard work,” he said.
Bose is determined to secure a contract that will allow him to provide for his family. Playing as a center, he faces fierce competition but knows the key to success lies in individual effort. “The effort you put into training can make all the difference,” he explained.
He added, “Training with the national team is a whole new level, and each session reminds me of the commitment required to stay in the game.”
Experienced Fijian 7s player Sevuloni Mocenacagi, who once played alongside Bose at Yamacia, continues to be a source of encouragement for the young player. “I’m happy to be training with him again. His experience and support on the field help push me to keep going.”
Currently in camp with the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s in Suva, Bose is aiming to secure a place in Coach Kolinisau’s squad for the Dubai 7’s.
