“Steelers Head Coach Makes Bold Moves, Acquiring Preston Smith from Packers for Seventh-Round Pick”

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — After trading for wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets, the Steelers have strengthened their defense by acquiring edge rusher Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers.

Pittsburgh will send a 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Jets for Williams, while they will trade a seventh-round pick to the Packers for Smith.

Williams, 30, has recorded 12 catches for 166 yards and no touchdowns this season. A former Clemson Tiger, Williams was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers as the seventh overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. During his time with the Chargers, he caught 309 passes for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Preston Smith, 31, was a second-round pick by the Washington Commanders in 2015 and has spent the last five seasons with the Packers. Over 146 career games, Smith has accumulated 411 total tackles and 66 sacks.
