“Fate Strikes Twice: Dallas Cowboys’ Sam Williams Faces Suspension and Season-Ending Injury Amid Legal Troubles”
A Dallas Cowboys fan might say fate just “added insult to injury,” as defensive end Sam Williams was suspended on Monday for three games without pay due to a violation of the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. The NFL stated that the suspension began before Week 8, allowing Williams to return on November 11 after the Cowboys’ Week 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
This would be significant news for Dallas, who are 3-4 following a 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and in need of all available help. However, Williams won’t be available, as the promising pass-rusher, whose behavior has raised concerns, sustained a season-ending knee injury in training camp.
Before selecting him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Cowboys claimed to have thoroughly vetted the talented defensive end. Nevertheless, Williams finds himself in legal trouble again in Frisco. In 2023, he was arrested on charges related to controlled substances and weapons.
During his rookie season in 2022, Williams missed a game after a car accident in which he reportedly gave varying accounts and was cited for reckless driving, with an arrest warrant briefly issued. Prior to that, he faced and was later cleared of misconduct allegations at Ole Miss. The 2023 arrest prompted an NFL investigation, which ultimately led to his suspension.
