“Bears Face Running Back Depth Concerns Amid Trade Inquiries for Khalil Herbert”
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that two Bears players, Khalil Herbert and Nate Davis, have drawn trade interest. However, trading Herbert would significantly impact the team’s already thin depth at running back.
As trade rumors often circulate leading up to the deadline, Rapoport’s report stands out with credible information. He mentioned that multiple teams have inquired about Herbert, highlighting his potential value given past performances and the league-wide injuries at the position.
While Herbert “could” attract further trade discussions, this doesn’t mean the Bears are actively shopping him. Trading Herbert would be risky since their next option, Travis Homer, has contributed little beyond special teams and is currently on injured reserve. Thus, moving Herbert could leave the Bears even more vulnerable at running back.
They don’t have any running backs on the practice squad, so if either starter D’Andre Swift or backup Roschon Johnson gets injured, they would still require another running back.
