This Sunday, one of the most iconic figures in women’s basketball, Seimone Augustus, will officially be enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Augustus, a trailblazer who left an indelible mark on both the WNBA and international basketball, will join the ranks of the sport’s greatest athletes in Springfield, Massachusetts, as part of the Class of 2023.
Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Augustus quickly emerged as a basketball prodigy. Her standout college career at Louisiana State University (LSU) established her as one of the nation’s premier players.
As a three-time All-American, she led LSU to the NCAA Final Four and won numerous accolades, including the 2006 NCAA Player of the Year award.
Her combination of scoring ability, poise, and leadership on the court set her apart from her peers, and it was clear that she was destined for greatness at the professional level.
In 2006, Augustus was selected as the first overall pick in the WNBA Draft by the Minnesota Lynx, marking the beginning of a stellar career that would span 14 seasons. Known for her silky smooth jump shot and clutch performances, Augustus became a fan favorite in Minnesota and across the WNBA.
She played an integral role in transforming the Lynx into a powerhouse franchise, winning four WNBA championships in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017.
