Black Bears Sign Owen Hill and Matt Duncan
The Maryland Black Bears, part of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), have bolstered their roster by signing two promising players from their recent Free Agent Camp: defenseman Owen Hill and forward Matt Duncan. Both players impressed coaching staff during the camp, earning their spots on the team for the upcoming season.
Owen Hill: A Strong Defensive Presence
Owen Hill, a 6’2″, 200-pound defenseman, is expected to bring a solid physical presence to the Black Bears’ blue line.
Hill, who hails from Upper Arlington, Ohio, has played at various levels, most recently with the Ohio Blue Jackets U18 team, where he developed a reputation for his strong defensive play and leadership on and off the ice.
In addition to his physicality, Hill has shown an ability to contribute offensively, registering key assists and taking smart shots from the point.
His size, combined with his strong skating and decision-making, should make him an invaluable asset for the Black Bears’ defense.
Head Coach Clint Mylymok expressed confidence in Hill’s potential, noting that his combination of size, skill, and work ethic will enhance the team’s defensive unit.
“Owen demonstrated throughout camp that he can be a key part of our defensive core,” said Mylymok. “His ability to read the game, play physical, and help move the puck effectively will be critical for us this season.”
Matt Duncan: An Offensive Spark
Matt Duncan, a 5’11”, 185-pound forward from Chesterfield, Missouri, is known for his scoring ability and high hockey IQ.
Duncan, who previously played for the St. Louis AAA Blues U18 team, made an immediate impact at the Free Agent Camp, showing off his quick hands, sharp vision, and ability to finish around the net.
Duncan’s offensive prowess has been evident at every level he has played, consistently putting up strong point totals. His ability to create plays and drive offensive chances should add depth and skill to the Black Bears’ forward group.
Duncan’s versatility allows him to play in various offensive roles, making him a valuable asset as the team looks to improve on their scoring capabilities.
“We’re excited to add Matt to our lineup,” Mylymok stated. “His offensive instincts and ability to produce under pressure will help strengthen our overall attack.”
Looking Ahead
The signings of Hill and Duncan give the Black Bears a promising outlook as they prepare for the upcoming NAHL season. Both players have demonstrated their potential at the Free Agent Camp and are expected to play pivotal roles in the team’s quest for success.
With their blend of skill, physicality, and potential for growth, the Black Bears are poised for an exciting season ahead.
