When the 2024-25 NBA season begins, LeBron James and his son Bronny will make history as the first father-son duo to play in the same game. Interestingly, this moment was made possible by the Golden State Warriors.
In a recent report focused on the Lakers, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne revealed that the Warriors had considered drafting Bronny in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. They admired his skills from his time at USC and felt he would fit well with their team.
The Warriors were also in a strong position to draft Bronny, holding the No. 52 pick, just ahead of the Lakers’ No. 55 pick. However, as Shelburne noted, the Warriors chose to honor LeBron James’ wishes, which the Lakers had indicated they would support.
Many in the NBA believe Bronny would not have been drafted without his father’s influence, given his modest college stats of 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in his freshman year at USC. Nonetheless, the move benefited the Lakers, as LeBron James signed a new contract with the team two weeks after Bronny was drafted.
