“Lane Hutson’s Lineup Spot Solidifies: Canadiens’ Defensive Shift Hints at Opening Night Roster”
The Montreal Canadiens have made a significant change on defense, and we may now have a clearer picture for the opening game lineup.
While the word ‘major’ is often overused, I genuinely believe it fits here.
This is a major shift, and it sends a strong message.
In summary, the defensive pairings have indeed been adjusted, with Lane Hutson now partnered with David Savard (replacing Arber Xhekaj).
This pairing provides a solid hint about the Canadiens’ intentions for Hutson.
Lane Hutson alongside David Savard: could this indicate his official spot in the lineup? Many experts think so.
What stands out most to me is that Hutson is playing on the left of Savard, just as he did in his two games last season. I have a strong feeling this is the Canadiens’ plan for October 9th! The pairing of Xhekaj and Barron could very well form the third defensive pair for the season opener.

During training camp, some changes warrant caution, while others are quite revealing.
For those eager to see Lane Hutson in the starting lineup for the regular season, this is a promising sign and excellent news.
It’s not surprising, given how well he’s performed in camp, but it’s finally coming together.
My final prediction for the Canadiens’ defensive lineup in the 2024-2025 season (assuming no injuries) is as follows:
In reality, the final spot seems to be between Logan Mailloux and Justin Barron, but Mailloux has a disadvantage because he can be sent down to the Laval Rocket without passing through NHL waivers, unlike Barron.
We’ll know for sure in about ten days!
