EMERGENCY: Following the F1 star’s father’s emergency room visit, Sergio Perez’s family releases a health update.
After sustaining a pre-heart attack during Sunday’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Sergio Perez’s father was released from the hospital. After being discovered unconscious on Sunday, Antonio Perez Garibay was taken to a hospital in Mexico City. Shortly after witnessing Perez’s fast-moving collision with Carlos Sainz, the 65-year-old experienced a medical episode while watching his son compete in Baku.
Before emergency personnel could be sent, he was discovered in his home’s bathroom. A photo of Perez Garibay laying on a hospital bed was posted in a press release from the Perez family. It was reported that Perez had suffered a pre-infarction and was in stable condition. After being admitted to the hospital for several days, Perez Garibay is now free to go home. His Instagram account, which included a written statement from the Perez family giving well-wishers an update, verified the news.
“Mr. Antonio Perez Garibay has been discharged from the hospital and is now at home, where he will continue his recovery process in the company of his loved ones,” the statement stated after a few days in the medical facility. “With this statement, Mr. Perez Garibay and Scuderia Perez would like to convey their profound appreciation to friends, family, and the media for the innumerable expressions of love, support, and unity throughout this difficult period. “Don Antonio will follow doctor’s orders to complete his recuperation. Once again, we appreciate your help and compassion, and we promise to keep an eye out for any pertinent updates on his condition.”
Prior to his accident with Sainz, his son Sergio was on course for his first podium finish since April in Baku. On the last lap, while they were battling for third position, Perez’s Red Bull’s front-right wheel collided with the Ferrari’s rear-left wheel as they were coming out of turn two, sending both cars flying into the barrier. Perez Garibay, cited by the Mexican publication Mediotiempo, speculates that the encounter might have been the reason of his medical episode. “Everything happened after the accident,” he stated. That might have been brought on by the accident’s shock. My heart is already being examined to determine the cause of my faint.”
Red Bull’s constructors team lost out on a big point haul as a result of Perez’s crash, which hurt their prospects of winning the championship. With just seven races left, McLaren topped the standings for the first time since early 2014. Oscar Piastri won the race, and Lando Norris surged from 15th on the grid to finish fourth, one spot ahead of Max Verstappen.
