“Darren Bent Questions Leicester’s £20m Move for Oliver Skipp: Summer’s Worst Signing?”
Pundit Darren Bent believes Oliver Skipp’s transfer to Leicester City is the worst signing of the summer, but not because Skipp is a “bad player.”
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Derby County striker has questioned whether the £20 million move from Spurs was the right decision for Leicester as they try to remain in the Premier League this season.
In a discussion about transfers with co-host Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT, Bent said, “Worst signing, Oliver Skipp, and I feel so bad saying that.”
Goldstein responded, “You’re a horrible man.”
Bent continued, “What am I supposed to do? I just think £20 million. Is that really what Leicester needed? Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks. Harry was good in the Championship last season.”
Bent explained that he didn’t consider Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s potential move to Chelsea in the same way because Chelsea has spent lavishly on various players, making it easy for signings to get lost in the mix.
“I’m not saying he’s a bad player,” Bent clarified. “But Leicester fans, when they signed Oliver Skipp, did they immediately think, ‘Yes, he’s the one who will give us the best chance of staying up?’ Did they?”
Skipp has made three appearances for Leicester so far, after making over 100 appearances for Tottenham, where he rose through the youth system.
