“Dak Prescott’s Future Uncertain: Will Seattle Make a Big Move as Contract Talks Stall?”
DALLAS – The Dallas Cowboys will begin their season on Sunday with a game in Cleveland against the Browns. As of now, quarterback Dak Prescott has not secured a contract extension.
According to some sources, negotiating a deal during the season seems unlikely, as Prescott prefers to stay focused on football without distractions.
“Seattle currently has Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith,” Bleacher Report notes. “But Smith will turn 34 in October and is seen as a tier below Prescott. Even if Smith has a strong season, signing Prescott could be a smart long-term move for Seattle. If they have to give a large contract to a veteran, Prescott, who is younger and more proven, would be the better choice.”
Last season, Prescott led the league in touchdown passes and finished second in MVP voting, behind Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
This year, Prescott is reunited with his top target, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. If he matches or exceeds his performance from last season, his market value is likely to increase even more.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has repeatedly mentioned that the challenge lies in balancing Prescott’s potential payday with the ability to maintain a strong supporting cast. Although the start of the season has been considered a “soft deadline” for reaching an agreement, negotiations could still continue.
The Cowboys-Browns game will be nationally televised as FOX’s NFL Game of the Week, with Tom Brady making his debut as a broadcaster.
