“Intense Rainstorms Devastate Northern Italy: Milan Flooded and Infrastructure Compromised as Southern Regions Face Drought”
Rainstorms have severely impacted northern Italy, causing dangerous situations. In Milan, flooding has led to the disappearance of at least one man. A video from TV RAI showed a tractor-trailer overturned in the muddy waters of Orco Creek, where a 58-year-old man is being sought after being swept away.
In the Piedmont region, specifically Val Di Susa, heavy rain caused a river to overflow, leading to the collapse of bridges and blocking roads, which trapped 50 people in two separate villages.
The flooding in Milan was exacerbated by overflows from the Seveso and Lambro rivers in Lombardy and Veneto, which caused water to inundate the city. The rapid onset of flooding trapped people in their cars and led to numerous calls for help from local firefighters. Residents also needed assistance with waterlogged basements.
Subway services in Milan were suspended due to the flooding, and Radio Popolare, established in 1976, was forced off the air for the first time due to flood damage.
Meanwhile, southern Italy is facing severe droughts, with Sicily and Sardinia particularly affected, leading to problems in agriculture and tourism.
