“Cam Heyward Secures Future with Steelers, Signs Three-Year Extension Through 2026”

Cam Heyward will have the opportunity to end his career where it began. The veteran Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle has signed a new three-year contract, which will keep him with the team through the 2026 season.

Heyward isn’t leaving the Steelers.

On Tuesday, the 35-year-old Heyward signed a three-year deal with Pittsburgh that will run until 2026. While the financial details were not revealed, the move solidifies Heyward’s future with the team.

Originally drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2011 draft, Heyward was approaching the final year of his current contract. Throughout the offseason and training camp, he expressed his desire to continue playing past 2024 and to remain in Pittsburgh. However, he acknowledged the possibility of leaving if an agreement couldn’t be reached.

Fortunately, that scenario won’t be necessary.

“How unlikely! But here we are,” Heyward shared on X, alongside a photo with Steelers general manager Omar Khan."REVEALED: Pittsburgh Steelers Has Signed Starlet Cam Hayward in a Three-Year Contract Deal Sealed For About...Read more

On Monday, Heyward was named a defensive captain for the 10th time in his 14-year career, joining an elite group of Steelers players who have achieved this milestone.

Despite a challenging, injury-marred season in 2023, during which he managed only two sacks in 11 games, Heyward is determined to return to the high standards he set earlier in his career, when he was considered one of the NFL’s top pass-rushing interior linemen.

“I’ve had to accept criticism,” Heyward said. “Everyone has their opinion, but I’m eager to prove them wrong. I’m focused on playing great football again.”
