“Everton’s Injury Woes Continue: Branthwaite and Patterson Still Sidelined After Break”
Sean Dyche has indicated that Jarrad Branthwaite may not be fit enough to play in Everton’s upcoming game after the international break.
The centre-back had an impressive 2023-24 season, becoming a key player for the Toffees. He made 41 appearances, scored three goals, and earned his first call-up to the England senior squad. Despite Manchester United’s interest during the summer transfer window, Everton rejected two offers for him.
Everton fans are yet to see Branthwaite this season, as he underwent minor groin surgery, forcing him to miss the entire pre-season. He has yet to make his return, and Everton has struggled in his absence, losing all three of their opening Premier League matches and conceding 10 goals.
With the international break extending their next fixture to 14 September, when they will face Villa, Dyche was asked about a behind-closed-doors match for Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson after their 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth. Patterson, who has been out since April due to a hamstring operation, also remains unavailable. Dyche responded by saying, “They are not there yet.”
This implies that both defenders will still need more time before being considered for selection.
Meanwhile, Youssef Chermiti is continuing his recovery from a foot operation earlier in the season, and Armando Broja, who joined on deadline day from Chelsea, is recovering from an ankle injury and isn’t expected to return until mid-October.
