“Pittsburgh Steelers Evaluate Former All-Pro Return Specialist Jamal Agnew”
On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers evaluated former All-Pro return specialist Jamal Agnew, as reported by the NFL transaction wire. Agnew remains a free agent after the Jaguars did not re-sign him following the 2023 season, which concluded his three-year contract with the team.
At 29 years old, Agnew retains the speed that initially made him a standout player. Drafted in the fifth round by the Detroit Lions in 2017 from San Diego, he spent his first four NFL seasons there before joining the Jaguars for the last three years.
Agnew began his career as a cornerback before transitioning to wide receiver, where he has recorded 77 receptions for 746 yards. However, his strength lies in his return game, amassing over 4,000 career return yards and 12 total touchdowns. He was named an All-Pro once and a Pro Bowler in 2022. Standing at 5-foot-9, he ran a 4.34 40-yard dash at the 2017 draft.
In 2023, Agnew recorded 14 receptions for 225 yards and a touchdown, though he missed over a month due to a rib and shoulder injury and ended the season with a broken leg. Despite recent interest from several NFL teams, the Steelers are the first team he has visited.
