“Dispute Arises Over Theo and Leao’s Conduct During Milan’s 2-2 Draw: Reactions from Di Canio and Fonseca”
Both players began the 2-2 draw as substitutes and, during a break in play, stayed on the opposite side of the pitch while coach Paulo Fonseca addressed the team.
Di Canio later remarked: “This is serious business. In my opinion, it’s disgraceful. This isn’t some casual after-work team where I pay for your pitch and you can do as you please—this is Milan. We’re talking about Theo and Leao, and one of them often serves as captain. What are you doing?
“Your teammates would have felt devalued by your behaviour.”
Fonseca later stated in his post-match press conference: “I’ve already spoken with Theo. I don’t lie; you know I’m always honest and sincere. There’s no issue with Theo and Rafa. They didn’t start the match, but we talked during the week, and they understood. They came on and played well, which shows there wasn’t a problem.”
