“Scott Wright’s Bold Move: Leaving Rangers for Birmingham’s Premier League Dream”
Scott Wright says his decision to leave Rangers for Birmingham City was an easy one because he is confident in the vision laid out by the club’s American owners, Knighthead, in Birmingham.
The Scottish winger was one of several last-minute signings for Birmingham on deadline day, joining alongside Japanese midfielder Tomoki Iwata and forward Jay Stansfield. Wright made an instant impact by scoring a 91st-minute winner against Wigan Athletic, extending Birmingham’s winning streak in League One to three games.
While some may question why a player who started a Champions League qualifier for Rangers against Dynamo Kyiv at the start of August would join a League One team by the end of the month, Wright was drawn to Birmingham’s ambition to reach the Premier League under their new ownership.
Wright explained: “I was getting game time at Rangers, but I felt it was time for a new challenge. After speaking with Birmingham, it became a no-brainer. Being part of this project and journey really appealed to me.”
He added that the move happened quickly, with everything coming together within a few days. After discussions with his family, Wright believed it was the right decision for his career.
Wright is likely to make his first start for Birmingham in their upcoming Bristol Street Motors Trophy match against League Two’s Walsall. Birmingham are expected to compete strongly on all fronts this season and have a history with this competition, having won it in the 1994/95 season.
