“Yankees Fall 14-7 to Cardinals as Juan Soto’s Fielding Struggles Steal the Spotlight”
A New York Yankees game that ended with a football-like score might have been prevented with some key catches. Outfielder Juan Soto’s errors contributed significantly to the Yankees’ recent 14-7 loss against the struggling St. Louis Cardinals. Although the defeat had several contributors, Soto’s rough performance in right field stood out.
The trouble began in the second inning when Soto misjudged a fly ball from Brendan Donovan due to challenging weather conditions. Initially moving toward the ball, he was caught off guard when the wind carried it further, leaving him unable to recover in time.
“When it was hit, I thought it would be a high popup in the infield,” Soto explained, according to Max Goodman of NJ.com. “But the wind pushed it toward the wall, making it unreachable.”
Donovan advanced to second base and scored shortly after on an RBI single from Jordan Scott.
In this instance, Soto misjudged the location of the ball, leading to three runs that effectively sealed the game for St. Louis, leaving New York (79-58) trailing. While acknowledging the impact of the wind, Soto pointed to the hit’s placement as the primary reason it eluded him.
