“Celtic Triumph in Old Firm Derby as Rangers Fans Demand Change”
Celtic took the first victory in this season’s Old Firm derby, and their fans were quick to celebrate on the Hotline. Calls were coming in even before half-time in Celtic’s dominant 3-0 win, which saw Brendan Rodgers’ team far ahead. While Celtic fans were overjoyed, Rangers supporters were furious and demanding changes at Ibrox.
Celtic fan Kenny Wilson from Moffat started off, saying: “Another brilliant performance from Celtic, completely outclassing this average Rangers team. Every player was outstanding, and our determination and effort were exceptional. Maeda must be a nightmare to play against; he was superb again, but I thought our captain was once again the best player on the pitch. He’s currently playing the best football of his career and topped it off with another fantastic goal. I wonder what excuses we’ll hear from the usual suspects after that thrashing.”
Stephen Mulhern from Dumbarton added: “Philippe Clement’s claim that Rangers weren’t underdogs was completely undermined by Celtic’s emphatic win. As I expected, Celtic’s blistering pace up front was too much for Rangers. The difference between the teams is that Celtic make things happen, while Rangers hope things will happen.”
James Robertson from Alabama took a more measured approach, saying: “I think we played reasonably well. We’re a team in progress, definitely not the finished article yet, but we have the potential to come together into a strong squad. Right now, Rangers are just a mid-table team in the league.”
Meanwhile, over in Glasgow, a frustrated Frank Jackson emailed: “I’ve said it before, but the current Rangers manager is out of his depth. There’s always talk before the derby, but this guy started making excuses after the Hearts game. This is the worst Rangers team I’ve seen in my lifetime. John Bennett will probably give him another contract extension. It’s embarrassing.”
Jamie Thompson from Yoker was equally scathing: “Clement has to go now; he’s out of his depth. It’s chaos. Tavernier is a waste of space, Dessers is useless, and McCausland is poor. The standard of these Rangers players is shocking—they can’t defend or pass properly. What has Clement done? Mantondo shouldn’t have been on the pitch, along with several others. This is unacceptable from both the Rangers board and the manager. This season is going to be a disaster for the fans, and we’re facing an impossible task with Manchester United, Tottenham, and others in the Europa campaign.
