Nottingham Forest on the Verge of Securing Santiago Gimenez in £30 Million Transfer Coup

Nottingham Forest have reached a potential £30 million agreement with Feyenoord for Santiago Gimenez, with the player expected to undergo a medical at the Premier League club within the next 24 hours.

As reported exclusively by Graeme Bailey, Forest’s manager Nuno Espirito Santo, after their 1-0 victory against Southampton on Saturday, expressed his hope of adding to the eight signings already made during this transfer window, which closes at the end of August.

Securing a center-forward has been a priority for the club, and it seems Nuno’s wish is about to be fulfilled. After unsuccessful negotiations with Arsenal for Eddie Nketiah, Nottingham Forest is now close to finalizing a deal for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.

According to HITC, an agreement in principle has been reached, with the deal valued at £28 million, potentially rising to £30 million. Forest had initially made a £21 million bid for Gimenez last week, identifying him as their primary target for the number nine position.

Over the past two weeks, discussions have advanced, and the Mexico international has indicated his willingness to join the two-time European champions. Feyenoord has now accepted Forest’s offer, and Gimenez is expected to be officially unveiled in the club’s red shirt within the next 24 hours."JUST IN: Nottingham Forest Close in Sealing the Deal Of Feyenoord Striker Santiago Gimenez Worth...Read more"

Despite concerns about Gimenez’s physicality and consistency, including skepticism from former Forest player Pierre van Hooijdonk, the 23-year-old boasts an impressive scoring record. He netted 23 goals as Feyenoord clinched the Eredivisie title under current Liverpool manager Arne Slot in 2023, followed by 26 goals the following season. He has also started the current campaign with four goals in four games.

While he may lack physical dominance, Gimenez makes up for it with clever movement and powerful shots with both feet. Former PSV Eindhoven striker Danny Koevermans praised him a few months ago, stating, “Just set him up. If he doesn’t score in the next game, he’ll score in the one after. He is an exceptional striker.”

HITC also reports that Tottenham Hotspur had considered signing Gimenez before choosing former Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke instead.
