Rapid Bucharest is reportedly making an effort to persuade Ianis Hagi to join their team from Rangers by offering him a top salary. However, this would require Hagi to accept a substantial pay cut from his current earnings at Rangers.
After spending last season on loan with Alaves in La Liga, Hagi has been sidelined by Philippe Clement, who is eager to transfer the Romania international before the August 30 deadline. Hagi has been training with Rangers’ B team and participating in their early-season matches.
Both Rapid and Universitatea Craiova have shown interest in the 25-year-old midfielder. Rapid’s majority shareholder, Dan Sucu, is said to have proposed a monthly salary of €30,000 (£24,400) to Hagi, which could total €500,000 (£423,400) annually with bonuses. This would make him the highest-paid player at Rapid and the second highest in the Romanian top league, behind Universitatea Craiova’s Alex Mitrita, who earns €600,000 annually.
Should Hagi accept the offer, he would face a significant reduction in salary compared to his current Rangers contract, which pays him €1.3 million (£1.1 million) per year with two years remaining.
