In Maine, right-hander Clarke Schmidt made his first appearance since suffering a lat strain in late May. Pitching for the Double-A Somerset Patriots, Schmidt allowed one run on a solo homer in 3.2 innings against the Portland Sea Dogs. He threw 48 pitches, with 30 landing in the strike zone.
