The “outstanding” 11-goal forward filed a transfer request, and Rangers are now exploring a $2 million deal for him.
Following a dazzling start to the transfer window, since Rangers announced on August 1st that they had signed FC Twente’s Robin Propper, things at Ibrox have become a bit quieter. In spite of recent connections with a number of wide attackers and central strikers, including Benfica prospect Tiago Gouveia and WSG Tirol’s Mahamadou Diarra, Philippe Clement has stated that Rangers are currently mired in the mud.
The Belgian stated last week that unless Rangers can get rid of a few unwanted players, no more acquisitions are expected. “It’s critical for the team to acquire players in addition to selling players,” Clement stated to BBC Sport. This is true, and the fact that some of them have known this for a very long time while remaining in the building makes matters more challenging. Yet things are as they are. “That is not the idea; I cannot put a gun on their heads to get them out of the building.”
“It is outside of my control. The players who are here, the players who will be here, and achieving the next outcome are the focus of all the enthusiasm. The first people who spring to mind are, of course, Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell. particularly in light of Rapid Bucharest’s announcement of their interest in the former. Meanwhile, earlier in the summer, Cantwell submitted a transfer request. As a result, he has been banished from Clement’s starting lineup.
Speaking of transfer requests, Abu Kamara reportedly slapped one of his own down on Norwich City’s desk, according to the BBC. Having assisted Portsmouth in winning League One last season while on loan at Fratton Park, Kamara is eager to get a permanent transfer out of Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team.
Rangers are vying for Abu Kamara, a winger for Norwich City. The two-time England Under-20 international is thought to be an inexpensive way to bolster Rangers’ options in the wide areas, according to Football Scotland. Benfica is rumoured to be seeking £7 million for Gouveia, but Kamara ought to be more like £2 million.
Rangers would still need to let go of players like Cantwell, who was previously of Norwich, but according to Football Scotland, personal differences won’t be a problem. On the Glasgow blue side, Kamara is offered what looks to be a long-term contract. For the most part, Kamara, a left-footer, has played on the right in his senior year. Given that Clement already had Vaclav Cerny, Scott Wright, and Ross McCausland at his disposal, it was expected that Rangers would give priority to a player who could cover for Abdallah Sima and Fabio Silva on the opposite flank.
The 21-year-old Kamara, who was excellent while on loan at Portsmouth last season, is adaptable enough to play off the left wing, though.
During a brilliant stint with Pompey, the Lambeth-born wide player scored 11 goals and assisted on another 10, with his versatility coming in very handy for the team’s coaching staff. This past term, assistant manager Jon Harley told The News, “Abs’ form has been outstanding.” He is such a wonderful young man who is very modest and eager to learn. We aim to isolate him one-on-one in our style of play because, as a full-back myself, I would hate to face him. Any full-back would be effective in that role, I’m sure.
“To his credit, he’s been working really hard on it, and now he can go outside, come inside, and have a finished product.” As the season has gone on, (His ruthlessness) has truly increased. “Abu has been really good and exceptional for us.”
