“Neal Maupay Reflects on Everton Journey: Struggles, Setbacks, and Renewed Optimism for the Upcoming Season”
Neal Maupay has expressed his enjoyment at Everton and is optimistic about the upcoming season, even after the club turned down a loan offer from Olympique Marseille. According to the ECHO, Everton is aiming for a permanent transfer for Maupay, who is entering the final 12 months of his challenging time at the club. However, Everton has the option to extend his contract by another year, which reportedly complicated Marseille’s offer. The proposed loan deal included an option to buy, but Everton would have needed to extend Maupay’s contract in order to secure a transfer fee.
When speaking on That Peter Crouch Podcast, Maupay shared his satisfaction at Everton, saying: “Yeah, I’m actually enjoying myself. Last year gave me a significant boost.”
He added that his loan spell at Brentford helped restore his confidence and now he feels fit and ready for the new season. Maupay emphasized that in football, the future is uncertain, but he is prepared and eager for the season ahead.
During his loan at Brentford, Maupay scored eight goals in 31 appearances, but he has only managed one goal in 32 games for Everton. Manager Sean Dyche praised Maupay’s competitive spirit, even after the striker was sent off in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stockport County. Dyche noted that he appreciated Maupay’s fiery attitude.
However, after his loan return to Brentford, Maupay made candid remarks about Everton’s supporters, telling Sky Sports: “I’m always honest and tell the truth; last season, I didn’t enjoy myself. My football and life in Everton were tough, and the fans made things harder for me.”
