“Celtic’s Striker Dilemma: Could Maeda Be the Key as Kyogo Eyes Man City Move?”
With Manchester City reportedly considering a bid for Celtic’s star striker in the coming days, the Parkhead faithful may face the unsettling reality of losing two key players, particularly if Matt O’Riley also heads to Brighton.
Kyogo Furuhashi has been instrumental in Celtic’s success, scoring 73 goals that have helped secure seven out of the last nine trophies. However, with the potential departure of Kyogo to Manchester City looming, Michael Stewart believes Celtic need not look far for a replacement.
Daizen Maeda is seen as a “viable option” to fill the striker role at Celtic. Like Kyogo, Maeda has played a crucial part in Celtic’s achievements over the past three seasons. When Kyogo was sidelined during the League Cup win over Hibs, Maeda stepped up, giving manager Brendan Rodgers something to consider, according to Stewart.
Stewart commented on The Scottish Football Social Club, saying, “Maeda has proven himself. Initially, there was doubt whether he could play centrally, but after his performance against Hibs, he showed he is more than capable. He’s a very viable option.”
With Kyogo’s injury concerns and Adam Idah yet to be signed, Stewart noted that Celtic now finds itself with three potential striker options. “Things move quickly in football, and Celtic’s striker situation is looking promising,” he added.
Maeda is no stranger to the striker role, having played the position for Japan under Hajime Moriyasu. Before joining Celtic, he also operated as a striker for Yokohama F. Marinos and Mito HollyHock.
