Rangers make their first try to sign a £34,000-per-week international attacker for Clement.
A recent report claims that Rangers made an attempt to recruit a 35-cap international attacker to Ibrox.
The team led by Philippe Clement is currently fully engaged in their 2024–25 campaign, having played two league games in the Scottish Premiership and earning four of a potential six points. There will be regret, meanwhile, that Rangers will once again have to make do with Europa League action this season rather than competing in the Champions League. The team will however be hoping that 2017 can be an improved campaign as they attempt to challenge Celtic’s dominance at the top of the league, despite the early elimination.
Near the Rangers’ departure was Cyriel Dessers. This summer has seen a lot of movement at Rangers, with a large number of players joining and departing the team. Clement will be hoping that the addition of multiple new players to the Scottish team will increase their chances of winning this year.
Rangers and Clement will probably try to strengthen the team rather than erode it, but it has now been made public that forward Cyriel Dessers was on the verge of leaving the Scottish team during this transfer window.
Reporter Luca Bendoni has revealed that Rangers and MLS team Atlanta United discussed a deal that would have seen Dessers join the team. According to Bendoni, negotiations centred around a $6 million (£4.6 million) contract for Dessers.
He said that although there was a tight agreement between the American team and Rangers, the 29-year-old’s refusal to play in the Major League Soccer caused the deal to collapse. The forward only signed with the Scottish team in the summer, but he already had a significant impact on the league, scoring 16 goals in 35 games in his debut season. Even if his future is in jeopardy, he has maintained his goal-scoring form in this current season.
However, when more information regarding Dessers becomes available, Rangers may be ready to make another transfer window entry to bolster their offensive options. Rangers reach out to acquire Josip Brekalo. Josip Brekalo is reportedly available for move from Serie A team Fiorentina, and Rangers are reportedly keeping an eye on the midfielder, according to Viola News, which was recapped by Sport Witness. Brekalo, who was on loan at Hajduk Split for the second half of the previous season, is allegedly “far away” from Fiorentina in terms of hierarchy.
Brekalo is free to quit the team even though he had opportunities in the preseason and isn’t the new manager Raffaele Palladino’s first choice.
Rangers is reportedly one of the UK teams that has contacted Brekalo, according to this source. It mentions that talks are still far from being finished, suggesting that Rangers may not have made an offer for the midfield player yet. Brekalo, a 35-cap Croatia international who has only scored one goal in 29 games for the Italian team, may earn a lot of money at Ibrox if Rangers decide to sign him. Brekalo is rumoured to already make £34,000 per week.
