Aaron Judge has been part of one of the most formidable duos in MLB this season, alongside Juan Soto, as they’ve consistently powered the New York Yankees’ offense. Their dominance was on full display Wednesday night, when they led the Yankees to an 8-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians, helping the team reclaim the lead in the AL East.
Judge, in particular, has elevated his performance as the division race against the Baltimore Orioles intensifies. The 32-year-old outfielder was a force at the plate, smashing two home runs and driving in three runs during the Yankees’ crucial victory over the AL Central leaders.
This strong showing has further enhanced Judge’s 2024 stats, which are beginning to rival his historic 2022 season, when he broke Roger Maris’ AL single-season home run record. As noted by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Judge’s 2024 OPS of 1.187 through 127 games surpasses his 2022 mark of 1.057 over the same span, with no one posting such a high slugging percentage for a full season since Ted Williams in 1957.
The only minor difference is that Judge had hit two more home runs (49) at this point two seasons ago, compared to his current total of 47. Still, that hardly diminishes his status as the most feared hitter in baseball. The real question now is whether Judge will once again receive MVP recognition, as the competition between him and Bobby Witt Jr. is set to dominate discussions in the coming months.
