JUST NOW: Injury update for Kentucky Football

The Kentucky Wildcats wanted to start the new season healthy because they had a game in less than two weeks. That hasn’t happened, though, because injuries have occurred in a few scrimmages before the season opener. They did not have any injuries during the scrimmage on Saturday, according to Mark Stoops, but they did sustain multiple injuries the week before. This past weekend, Stoops made the decision to play more of the younger players and cut down on the scrimmage.

On Saturday, Stoops stated, “It looks like we came out of this one pretty clean, which was important.” “I’m happy with where we are right now. When I spoke with you last week, I mentioned that I didn’t really think we came out of this scrimmage undamaged. After that, a few things became apparent to us. Two guys who were essential to us will be missed for a considerable amount of time. But only minor bruises and bumps aside from that.

DJ Waller Jr., a player who missed the first practice because of a minor injury, did make a comeback during the second scrimmage. Waller is competing with Maxwell Hairston to be the backup boundary cornerback. Among the injured players for Kentucky is Ohio State running back transfer Chip Trayanum, who will be sidelined for an extended period of time. He broke his hand during practice, so he’ll probably miss at least the first game against Southern Miss.

Hardley Gilmore, a true freshman wide receiver, was another player Stoops believed may have an impact this year. Due to a collarbone injury, he is anticipated to miss some of the season; nevertheless, he plans to return before the middle of the campaign. He is expected to receive a redshirt and may be available for the remaining four games of the season. Stoops stated, “Hardley will be out for a decent bit.” “It will be more or at least midseason.”

Marques Cox, the starting left tackle, made a comeback during Tuesday’s practice, which was encouraging for Kentucky. After a brief injury layoff, he is back in the practice. It’s almost time to play football in the Bluegrass with the season ending in less than two weeks!
