“Paul Hurst Vows to Keep Injured Aston Villa Loanee Josh Feeney Engaged with Shrewsbury Squad”
Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst has expressed his desire for Josh Feeney to remain integrated with the team despite his hamstring injury.
Defender Feeney, on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, is sidelined with a hamstring issue and is expected to be out for a few more weeks. He is currently undergoing part of his rehabilitation with Villa while still attending all of Shrewsbury’s matches.
Hurst emphasized the importance of keeping loan players involved even when injured, noting that Villa also wants Feeney to stay connected with the team. Although he had just joined, Hurst stressed the need for Feeney to avoid feeling disconnected.
“We want him to continue feeling part of the squad,” Hurst said. “Being treated like a Shrewsbury player is a crucial aspect of going out on loan. I discussed this with someone regarding Charles yesterday, and it’s vital that loan players feel included. We don’t want anyone to feel left out here.”
Hurst added that while loan players need to engage with the team, he’s confident Feeney will do just that. The young defender was disappointed by the injury and wanted to stay with Shrewsbury, but given Villa’s resources, it made sense for him to return there for the initial rehab period. Hurst remains optimistic that Feeney’s recovery won’t take too long, estimating a few more weeks before he can ramp up his rehabilitation.
