Abdallah Sima joins Brest on loan, effectively ending Rangers’ transfer aspirations.
Abdallah Sima has left Brighton on loan again, but instead of returning to Rangers, he has travelled to France. The 23-year-old has signed a season-long loan deal with Brest, where he will have the opportunity to play Champions League football following their third-place finish last season. His contract with the Seagulls expires in 2026, so any interested teams, including Rangers, may be in a stronger position to negotiate a permanent agreement next summer, when he has only a year left.
Last season, the Senegalese forward scored 16 goals in 39 appearances for the Ibrox club, and fans were hoping he’d return, with manager Philippe Clement saying he’d enjoy that as well. However, he returns to France, where he previously spent time on loan with Angers.
Brest stated on their website: “Trained in Medina, Senegal, the 23-year-old left winger really revealed himself in the colours of Slavia Prague during the 2020-21 season. During this exercise, the Dakar native scored an incredible 16 goals in 39 matches across all competitions, completing the cup-league double in Czech Republic.
“Performances that drew the attention of Brighton, a Premier League club, where he signed in the summer of 2021.” After being loaned by the Seagulls to Stoke City and subsequently to Angers during the 2022-23 season, Abdallah joined Glasgow Rangers during the summer transfer window in 2023. In Scotland, the player who will wear number 17 this season has discovered the European Cup, appearing in the Champions League play-offs (3 matches, 1 goal) and 6 Europa League matches (3 goals) in 2023-24.
“Abdallah Sima also had an impact in the league this season, scoring 11 goals in 24 appearances. Rangers finished second behind Celtic Glasgow and won the Scottish League Cup. Abdallah Sima scored 16 goals throughout 39 matches. Just like in the Czech Republic! “Abdallah Sima, a Senegalese international with seven caps, will bring his extensive expertise to the Finistère assault. Welcome home, Abdallah!”.
