Report: Newcastle United has now been presented with an offer to loan out a “impressive” centre-back.
At the moment, Newcastle United’s main priority before the transfer season ends is to sign a centre-back, and Marc Guehi is their top choice.
But with the transfer saga’s outcome, whether favourable or unfavourable, looming, that arrangement is in jeopardy. It has been stated that should an agreement not be reached by this weekend, Newcastle will withdraw from the Guehi accord.
Should that be the case, Toon representatives will have to search elsewhere. It’s not apparent who Newcastle’s preferred choice is after Guehi. Newcastle now finds Joe Gomez’s asking price to be too expensive, but there are other options in Malick Thiaw and Trevoh Chalobah. Eddie Howe is hoping for one centre back to arrive, but there’s a chance that one may leave.
A Newcastle teenager is drawing attention from the Championship Before the summer transfer window ends on August 30, Newcastle United must work on outgoings as well as incomings.
There are many of Toon youngsters who may benefit from a trip out on loan, one of them being Alex Murphy.
With the absence of an injury, the 20-year-old would have participated in preseason action after making two Premier League appearances for Newcastle in the previous campaign. Murphy has played a significant amount of senior team time; Eddie Howe described Murphy as “impressive” during the previous season’s training. Following rumours that Murphy would be loaned out by Newcastle for the 2024–2025 campaign, the Irish defender is starting to draw attention.
Numerous Championship clubs are interested in Murphy, according to iNews. Portsmouth is one of those teams, and iNews also reports that they have made contact with Newcastle on a possible move. Murphy would be reunited with Matt Ritchie if that deal materialised. Ritchie had previously stated that he wanted to return to Fratton Park, and after being released by Newcastle, he signed a two-year contract with Portsmouth.
Whether or whether Newcastle signs a centre-back, they will still need to loan Murphy out. Given that Newcastle needs a centre back this summer, one could argue that Murphy ought to remain at St. James’ Park in the event that Paul Mitchell is unable to buy a player. Howe would have additional cover as a result, and Murphy could keep practicing with the Newcastle first team.
He is a left-sided centre back, though, so staying on Tyneside is probably not necessary. We need more bodies where it is on the right. On the other hand, Dan Burn, Lloyd Kelly, and Sven Botman—once he’s healthy again—can all play as left-sided centre backs. Murphy would gain more from playing senior football on a regular basis and going out on loan. It will be intriguing to see if he makes that move before the transfer window ends on August 30th. He would love to play in the Championship.
