“Raheem Sterling’s Future: Why a Celtic Reunion with Brendan Rodgers is Off the Table”
The possibility of Raheem Sterling being offered and accepting a transfer to Celtic has been discussed and ultimately dismissed.
The Chelsea winger was excluded from Enzo Maresca’s squad for their 2-0 home defeat against Man City, and just before the match, his representatives issued a statement demanding clarity about his future at Stamford Bridge. With Chelsea’s extensive squad, it appears that the former Liverpool and City star’s time at the club may be nearing its end.
This has led to speculation about where Sterling might go before the transfer window closes. However, due to his age and high wages, he’s not an ideal candidate for other top English clubs, which means he might have to consider moving abroad. During a talkSport Breakfast Show, a caller humorously suggested Rangers, which host Jeff Stelling didn’t entertain. However, it did prompt him to wonder if Sterling might be interested in reuniting with Brendan Rodgers.
Sterling previously played under Rodgers at Liverpool when they nearly won the title together. But co-host Ally McCoist pointed out that there are a couple of reasons why a move to Celtic is unlikely from Sterling’s perspective, even before considering financial factors.
Stelling remarked, “Raheem Sterling should sign for Rangers…I’m not going to read the rest of this, but what about Celtic?”
McCoist responded, “Brendan knows him, but I think Sterling would see it as a step down. I don’t think it’s likely – if he’s leaving the country, I think he’ll go to Saudi Arabia.”
