“Leicester City Facing Major Points Deduction This Year Despite 2025 Case Extension Speculation”
Leicester City is expected to receive a “significant” points deduction this year, despite reports suggesting their case might extend into 2025.
This is according to finance expert Stefan Borson, who told Football Insider that there is no reason for the process to be delayed until next year if the hearing occurs in the next few months.
Leicester was charged in March for violating the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) for the 2022-23 season.
The club reported losses of £89.7 million in 2022-23, exceeding the £105 million allowed over three years for top-flight teams.
On August 13, The Telegraph reported that the case might continue into next year, as a verdict is still months away.
However, Borson believes that scenario is unlikely, expecting Leicester to face a significant points deduction this year.
Borson remarked that the article was somewhat contradictory, noting that a points deduction of up to six points is quite serious and indicates Leicester’s significant breach.
The case still concerns the 2022-23 season, as the process has been delayed, and there may also be another breach for the 2023-24 season, which will be addressed next season.
