“Borussia Dortmund Set to Start Gregor Kobel Despite Recent Injury Scare for Bundesliga Opener”
Borussia Dortmund is expected to include Gregor Kobel in their starting lineup for the Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt, despite his recent back issue.
Kobel was substituted at halftime during Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal first-round match against Phönix Lübeck on Saturday due to back problems. The decision, as explained by Nuri Sahin, was a precautionary measure, and Sebastian Kehl confirmed it was to avoid unnecessary risks.
According to BILD, Kobel’s availability for Dortmund’s upcoming match isn’t in doubt, and he is expected to start as goalkeeper when the team faces Eintracht Frankfurt in their first Bundesliga game of the 2024/25 season.
As Kobel enters his fourth season with Borussia Dortmund, having joined from VfB Stuttgart in 2021, he has solidified his reputation as one of the top goalkeepers globally. His presence in the starting XI would be a significant advantage for BVB as they aim for a strong start to their Bundesliga campaign.
Last season, Kobel was one of Dortmund’s standout players, making crucial saves that helped the team reach the UEFA Champions League final. He will be vital to their aspirations for a Bundesliga title this season.
If Kobel is unable to play against Eintracht Frankfurt, Alexander Meyer, Dortmund’s second-choice goalkeeper, would step in. However, it seems likely that the 26-year-old will be fit to lead BVB’s efforts against opponents like Omar Marmoush.
