“Yankees’ Star Acquisition Jazz Chisholm Sidelines Surgery, Aims for Late-Season Comeback”
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is currently sidelined but not out of the game just yet.
Greg Joyce of the New York Post reported on Friday that the New York Yankees’ newly acquired player, Chisholm, has avoided surgery on his injured left elbow for the time being. After consulting with several doctors, Chisholm has been advised to rest and undergo rehabilitation instead of undergoing a surgical procedure.
Joyce also mentioned that the Yankees are optimistic about Chisholm’s return to the field this season, potentially as soon as September.
Chisholm, a former All-Star at 28 years old, was recently acquired by the Yankees from the Miami Marlins in a trade just before the deadline last month. He made an immediate impact in New York, hitting .316 with seven home runs in just 14 games, and even adapted well to a new position the Yankees assigned him.
However, Chisholm injured the UCL in his left elbow earlier this week while sliding into home plate against the Chicago White Sox (video available here). This injury continues a pattern from his time with the Marlins, where he frequently faced health setbacks, now persisting just two weeks into his Yankees career.
The Yankees, with a 72-50 record, are currently tied with the Baltimore Orioles for the AL East division lead. While Chisholm has some time to recover before the regular season concludes on September 29, the Yankees will need to continue their push for the division title without him in the coming weeks.
