Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson recently shared valuable advice with a group of young basketball players. Thompson, a long-time Golden State Warrior, emphasized the importance of a strong work ethic and disciplined habits for success in the NBA.
With 13 years in the league and four championships, Thompson knows that a lengthy NBA career is not guaranteed but achieved through dedication and a genuine love for the game, according to basketball trainer Olin Simplis’ Instagram.
“Regardless of how you perform on any given day or how you feel, you need to keep pushing yourself every day,” Thompson said. “Embrace this game because it doesn’t last forever. It goes by quickly, and sticking around as you get older can be challenging. Appreciate every moment and love it, because while money is nice, being able to do something you love for a living is unparalleled.”
After spending his entire career with the Warriors, Thompson signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks in July. At 34, the 3-point shooter aims to help the Mavericks, who fell to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals, achieve their championship goal.
Thompsom, who last won a championship with the Warriors in 2022, hopes to return to the Finals alongside stars Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving.
“I was watching as a fan and thought, ‘I could really help this team. They’re so close,’” Thompson said, according to Schulyer Dixon of NBA.com. “It’s not about big changes but small tweaks. We’re on the brink, and that’s what excited me about joining the Mavericks.”
